What are PowerPoint theme colors?

A PowerPoint theme stores a color scheme inside the PPTX package. The standard theme color scheme includes 12 slots: dark and light text/background colors, six accent colors, hyperlink, and followed hyperlink.

When a slide shape uses a theme slot instead of a hard-coded color, changing the theme can update the deck consistently. That is why theme colors matter for brand refreshes, client templates, sales decks, and training decks.
